KOTA MARUDU: The State Government has approved RM6.6 million for the development of two infrastructure projects slated to begin construction here in November.

According to the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the project entailed extending Pekan Kota Marudu’s dual carriageway in order to ease traffic.

The sum also includes RM1.6 million for a 100-metre pipeline bridge project in Kg Simpangan Sungai Bandau to address the district’s water supply issues.

“The first project is to widen the road next to Pekan Kota Marudu which frequently experiences congestion, particularly during the holiday seasons.

“Up to RM5 million has been provided for this as an advance expenditure for the project,” he said.

The RM1.6 million would be used to construct a pipeline bridge to address the district’s issues with a shortage of water supply and pipe damage.

He told the media on Tuesday that he hopes both initiatives would be able to tackle the challenges experienced by the residents of Kota Marudu.

Prior to visiting the Bandau Water Plant and briefing from District Water Engineer Jozs Band about the projected building of a pipe bridge, Hajiji, who was in the district for a one day work visit, took part in a Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat Kota Marudu ceremony.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda said 80,000 Bandau residents would benefit from the projects. Thanking the State Government, he said the people of Kota Marudu see this as a positive development.

At the event, Hajiji presented the chairmen of the village development and security committees in Kg Asin-Asin and Kg Terintidone with 51 native land grants, the approval of Sawit Kinabalu Village Reserve Gazette, and the Village Reserve Gazette.

Also present were the Minister of Special Duties, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, Assistant Minister of Finance, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hendrus Anding, Sabah Bersatu Armada Head, Fairuz Renddan, District Officer, Alexander Yong and Land and Survey Director Datuk Bernard Liew.
