AUTHORITIES in Pasir Mas have seized 57,780 units of flavoured electronic cigarette (vape) devices and a lorry, with the total estimated value placed at RM8.8 million, during a raid conducted in Kampung Gelang Mas on Wednesday.
The operation, codenamed Op Taring Wawasan, took place around 2pm when officers intercepted a suspicious lorry parked at the roadside.
Commander of the Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (PGA), Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, stated:
"Inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of several boxes wrapped in yellow plastic in the rear of the lorry, containing 57,780 units of various flavoured vape devices."
Two men were detained at the scene, aged 22 and 40, believed to be the lorry driver and his assistant.
"Preliminary checks revealed that all the electronic cigarettes did not meet Malaysian standards under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Devices) Order 2022, which requires products to carry MS SIRIM certification before being sold locally," said Nik Ros Azhan.
He added that the two individuals are suspected to have been hired to deliver the illicit cargo.
All seized items have been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Pasir Mas for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(2) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Devices) Order 2022, pursuant to the Trade Descriptions Act 2011. - July 10, 2025
