KUALA LUMPUR – A civil servant in Perlis has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for receiving RM800 a month in bribes.

The illicit activity, which the individual had been engaging in since 2022, was uncovered by authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest yesterday afternoon.

According to sources, the suspect is believed to be receiving bribe money on a monthly basis, involving six transactions through accounts belonging to middlemen.

"Perlis MACC has arrested the civil servant on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM4,800 in exchange for not taking action against the wrongdoings committed by fishing boats belonging to a seafood-related company," he said today.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, was apprehended around 2.45pm at the MACC office in Perlis when he was called in to give his statement.

He added that initial investigations revealed the suspect's alleged involvement in the act dates back to around 2022. – April 18, 2024
