Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah arrested a project manager from a company suspected of submitting false claims amounting to approximately RM800,000.

According to a source, the male suspect, in his 50s, was detained at 10am Thursday when he appeared to give a statement at the MACC Sabah office.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed the act between 2014 and 2018.

“The suspect allegedly submitted false claims to a State Government department for a road construction project in the State, despite the fact that the work was not fully completed,” the source said.

MACC Sabah Director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted, saying the case is being investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code.

He said the suspect was released after giving his statement on a bail of RM10,000 with one guarantor.

The suspect is expected to be charged today (March 7) at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court.
