Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department scored its biggest drug seizure this year with 14kg of syabu worth an estimated RM840,000.Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said 10 male suspects aged 17 to 40 were arrested in five crackdowns in Kinabatangan, Semporna, Inanam, Tuaran and Lahad Datu from July 2 to 4. The biggest bust was in Kinabatangan where 10kg worth RM600,000 was found inside a silver Perodua Axia along the Sandakan-Lahad Datu roadside at 11.45am on Monday.

“The 27-year-old suspect was loading a box into the car...that quantity could supply up to 50,000 addicts,” he told a press conference at the Sabah Police Contingent headquarters, here, Friday.

Three foreigners were caught on Monday and Tuesday with four 1kg bags on them. Two of them (bags) were in Semporna and the others in Inanam and Tuaran.

Jauteh said criminal property seizures included RM164,000 cash, jewellery, luxury bags and 11 cars worth a total of RM1.2 million.

He said all 10 claimed to act as middlemen, saying they acquired the drugs from someone else before reselling it to the local and international markets.

“We are still investigating the link between the suspects and there are other suspects we are hunting,” he added.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, Jauteh said police recorded 8,030 drug-related arrests up to July this year.

“It is a 20 per cent increase compared to last year. Drug seizures are estimated to be RM2.1 million with RM3.5 million in criminal property seized,” he said.
