BELURAN: An allocation of RM8 million has been set aside for temporary cabin classrooms and hostel facilities for SK Simpangan Beluran, pending the construction of a permanent facility at a new site.
State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib said the temporary units would provide a more conducive environment for pupils currently sharing the compound of SMK Simpangan Paitan.
The Sugut assemblyman noted that a new site has been identified, with the permanent school project slated for submission under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
James urged the Education Ministry and Sabah Education Department to provide cabin accommodation for around 30 teachers currently without suitable quarters, along with temporary hostels to help improve SMK Simpangan's 83 per cent student attendance rate.
He added that student welfare would be further supported by daily meal aid for over 50 underprivileged pupils starting October 2026, alongside the recent deployment of five transport vans, two Starlink units, and three water filtration machines.
