A road in Rawang is temporarily closed by the city council. According to a Facebook post by the district’s ADUN, the road has shown signs of sinking.
After the sinkhole incident at Jalan Masjid India in KL, several sunken roads were spotted near the area, as well as other areas in KL. This time, Rawang’s ADUN, Chua Wei Kiat said Jalan Bandar Rawang 2 is closed until further notice to allow the Selayang City Council to investigate the cause.
The road is just located next to the Selayang City Council’s office.
This was NOT the 1st sunken road incident in the area. According to Chua, a similar incident happened earlier this year after the road was fixed.
The cause of the possible sunken road is still not determined but based on early investigations, Chua said,
“There’s possibly a huge drain underground that needs fixing in terms of its structure.”
For the time being, Chua said the road is temporarily closed for the authorities to carry out the investigation, and reminded road users to use alternative routes to get to their destinations.
Chua, however, is not sure how long the road will be closed.
“This road closure is necessary for the sake of the road users’ safety. We are also doing our best to prevent history from repeating itself.”
Regardless, we hope the necessary work will be done before any accidents happen.
In another update, the family members of the sinkhole victim returned to India last night (September 1) after performing a final rite at the scene. The government ceased the search mission on Saturday (August 31) after deeming the operation too risky.
