POLICE in Sabah have arrested five men in connection with an attack on a vehicle that gained widespread attention on social media, officials confirmed.

The incident took place at around 1.45pm yesterday, shortly after the victim, a 30-year-old teacher, attended an event at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, acting district police chief, said authorities received a report regarding the matter at 2.35pm the same day and launched an immediate investigation.

“Initial investigations found that the victim had been involved in a verbal provocation with the five men,” he said in a statement.

“The teacher then reversed the vehicle and accidentally hit another car.”

Syed Lot explained that the situation escalated as several individuals pursued the teacher and smashed the driver-side and rear windows of her vehicle.

“The victim also claimed that she had been threatened to exit the vehicle during the incident,” he added.

Acting on this information, police conducted a prompt operation and successfully detained the five local men last night to assist with investigations.

“Remand applications for all suspects will be filed to complete the investigation,” Syed Lot said.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for criminal damage and Section 506 for criminal intimidation. Authorities emphasised that the arrests were part of a swift response to ensure public safety and accountability in light of the viral incident. - March 29, 2026
