
In a major crackdown, the district health authorities claimed to have busted an inter-state sex determination racket operating at a house in Amroha district, arresting seven people involved in the illegal activity.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta, the PC-PNDT team of the Rohtak Health Department carried out the operation at Sateda village in Amroha on Wednesday, where a gang was allegedly conducting illegal sex determination tests on pregnant women from Rohtak and nearby districts in Haryana in exchange for money.
He said the accused were caught red-handed from a house at the village, where a portable ultrasound machine was recovered along with cash taken for conducting sex determination tests.
A case has been registered at Hasanpur police station in Amroha against 13 persons in this respect. While seven were arrested on the spot, six others were named in the case based on evidence and statements, the DC added.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off, under the supervision of Rohtak Civil Surgeon Rohtak Dr Ramesh Chandra. Dr Vishwajeet Rathi, PC-PNDT nodal officer, led the raiding team. The Rohtak team also coordinated with the Jhajjar PC-PNDT team during the operation.
“The main accused, Devendra, had earlier been caught by the Rohtak team in August, 2025, at a village in Amroha district with a portable ultrasound machine while conducting illegal sex determination, and was later sent to jail after being booked at Hasanpur police station,” said Dr Ramesh Chander, the Civil Surgeon.
He said during the latest operation, a decoy customer along with three other women was brought to the accused by local agent, identified as Ravindra. The team recovered Rs 98,500 from Ravindra in addition to Rs 35,000 given by the decoy, which he had collected from women for arranging the tests.
“Devendra conducted sex determination tests on two women, falsely declaring the results as “negative,” indicating female foetus. All accused involved in the operation, including Devendra, agent Ravindra and Vipin, three women, and one woman’s husband, have been arrested. Six others linked to the racket have also been named as accused,” said the Civil Surgeon.
