As per sources, the action came in connection with an issue pertaining to the State Institute of Mental Health (SIMH) located on the PGIMS campus.
According to an office order issued by the PGIMS director on Friday, serious allegations of misconduct, dereliction of duty and acts prejudicial to the interests of the institute have been brought to the notice of the competent authority against the professor.
The order stated that, after preliminary consideration of the material available on record, the competent authority found sufficient grounds to initiate disciplinary proceedings that could result in the imposition of a major penalty.

During the suspension period, the professor will be entitled to subsistence allowance and other admissible benefits as per rules. He has also been instructed to cooperate fully with the inquiry proceedings.
The order mentioned that a memorandum of charges or charge-sheet will be served separately in due course. The suspension will remain subject to review by the competent authority in accordance with the applicable rules and instructions governing suspension.
