The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) on Friday organised its 13th national students convocation, bringing together over 1,200 participants, including newly qualified cost and management accountants (CMAs), rank holders, policymakers, academicians and industry leaders.
Held at the C Subramaniam Convention Centre in the ICAR-NASC Complex, the convocation highlighted the growing role of CMAs in India’s economic transformation. Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Taranjit Singh Sandhu attended the event as the chief guest, while Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region Sukanta Majumdar and former Union Minister Satyanarayan Jatiya were present as guests of honour.
L-G Sandhu said the role of CMAs had expanded significantly with the changing nature of business and governance. “CMAs are no longer limited to maintaining records or preparing balance sheets, but are increasingly becoming part of strategic decision-making processes within organisations," he added.
Stressing the importance of ethics and professionalism, Sandu said credibility was the real currency in the profession and urged students to combine competence with integrity. Sukanta Majumdar described the graduating students as “financial yodhas of the Indian economy” and said the profession would play a key role in India’s aspiration to become the world’s third-largest economy and achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047.
Majumdar highlighted ICMAI’s contribution towards strengthening financial discipline, transparency and cost efficiency across sectors of the Indian economy and encouraged students to embrace artificial intelligence, big data and digital transformation.
ICMAI president CMA TCA Srinivasa Prasad said the role of CMAs was becoming increasingly multidimensional due to rapid technological and economic changes. He added that CMAs were emerging as strategic advisors and guardians of financial discipline, with growing relevance in areas such as taxation, corporate governance, risk management and sustainable growth.
CMA Ashwin Kumar G Dalwadi, Convener of the Convocation Committee and former president of ICMAI, said the graduating students were joining a network of more than one lakh qualified CMAs contributing across industries and government institutions. He also announced a specialised forensic audit programme in collaboration with the National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, and AI-enabled learning initiatives with IIT-Madras. The convocation saw toppers of the CMA examinations for June and December 2025 being honoured. More than 200 rank holders and 47 prize winners were felicitated during the ceremony.
