Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he was proud of his players after their Europa League final penalty shootout defeat to Sevilla.
Gabriel Montiel scored the decisive penalty for Sevilla after the scores had finished 1-1 at the end of extra-time. Paulo Dybala had put Roma ahead in the first-half before Sevilla drew level after the break via Gianluca Mancini's own goal.
Mourinho later said: "I've won five finals and I lost this one, but I'm coming back home proud again. The boys gave everything.
"We are all attached to the shirt, to our nature. We take things seriously and humbly, we work a lot. Everyone reacts in a different way: one cries, the other doesn't. The truth is that we are all very sad, with or without crying. Great match, great final intense, vibrant.
"We felt pressure against a team that has more talent than us. We lost a game but not dignity. I've never gone home prouder than today, even when I won. We had also worked hard on penalties but... we missed two but all together, not only the penalty takers.
"Congratulations to Sevilla, but also congratulations to my players. The boys must go home peacefully, with pride for having done what they have done. These are my boys from Budapest.
"I didn't hide Paulo, I hid his situation in the last two or three days. He was seriously injured. When you see Paulo play, you understand that, with him over the last two months, our results would have been different
