Having signed Nemanja Matic on a free transfer from Manchester United, Roma coach Jose Mourinho is returning to England for Luiz.
La Repubblica says Luiz is prepared to leave Villa after their deal for former Olympique Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.
Villa are willing to sell the Brazilian for €30m.
Mourinho will move for Luiz if Roma cannot prise Rodrigo de Paul away from Atletico Madrid.
