Air quality in Rompin remains unhealthy with API at 152 due to a plantation fire, prompting public health warnings and enforcement action
ROMPIN: Air quality in Rompin remained at an unhealthy level this afternoon. The Air Pollutant Index was recorded at 152 due to a fire at an oil palm plantation.
Data showed the API reading stayed at 152 from 9 am until 5 pm. Pahang Department of Environment director Zakaria Ahmad said the plantation fire contributed to the increase in air pollution.
He advised the public to reduce outdoor activities and take care of their health. This warning is especially pertinent for those in high-risk groups.
Zakaria said notices had been issued to the plantation manager. They were instructed to control the fire and submit a report to the department.
He also reminded the public to avoid open burning. Such acts are an offence and can result in heavy fines or imprisonment.
