RON97 and diesel prices rise by three sen per litre following global oil trends

THE retail prices of RON97 petrol and diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will increase by three sen per litre from 28 August to 3 September 2025, following a rise in global crude oil prices, the Ministry of Finance announced.

RON97 will be priced at RM3.16 per litre, up from RM3.13, while diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will cost RM2.88 per litre, compared to RM2.85 previously.

Despite the increase, diesel remains below the floated market price introduced on 10 June 2024, which had reached RM3.35 per litre. The government said it continues to absorb part of the cost to mitigate the impact on consumers.

In a statement, the ministry said, “The government will continue to monitor market trends and adjust retail fuel prices based on global movements while supporting price stability.”

Under the current weekly pricing mechanism, RON95 remains unchanged at RM2.05 per litre. RON97 rises by three sen to RM3.16 per litre. Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia increases by three sen to RM2.88 per litre. Diesel in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remains fixed at RM2.15 per litre.

The Ministry added that it will continue to monitor global oil price developments and “take appropriate steps to ensure the continued welfare and well-being of the people.” - August 27, 2025
