The retail price of RON97 petrol falls while diesel rises in Peninsular Malaysia, with the government adjusting subsidy limits to curb leakages.
KUALA LUMPUR: The retail price of RON97 petrol will drop by 20 sen to RM4.95 per litre for the week starting April 2.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance announced the price adjustment alongside a 50 sen increase for diesel in Peninsular Malaysia, bringing it to RM6.02 per litre.
Diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remain unchanged at RM2.15 per litre.
The retail price of unsubsidised RON95 petrol is maintained at RM3.87 per litre.
The subsidised RON95 price under the BUDI MADANI initiative is also held at RM1.99 per litre.
Effective immediately, the BUDI95 eligibility limit has been temporarily adjusted to 200 litres per month.
This adjustment runs alongside the implementation of diesel filling limits to curb leakages and smuggling.
The government is also maintaining the additional BUDI Diesel cash assistance of RM100 for April.
This brings the total aid to RM300 for recipients under the BUDI Individu and BUDI Agri-Komoditi categories.
According to the MOF, the measures aim to ensure fuel prices remain affordable and safeguard public well-being.
They are designed to protect selected sectors through targeted and transparent subsidies.
“The government is also considering medium- and long-term measures to ensure that the subsidy mechanism remains sustainable, transparent and beneficial to the people,” the ministry said.
This consideration takes into account developments in the global energy crisis and its implications on the market.
