PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) could face deregistration after receiving a notice from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) requiring the coalition to explain within 30 days why its registration should not be cancelled.
A source confirmed that the notice was issued to PN chairman, its secretary-general and all component parties yesterday, although the source was unable to confirm whether the notice was formally delivered to the chairman or secretary-general.
“Yes, I can confirm that it is accurate, but I am not sure to whom the notice from RoS was handed over, whether to the chairman or the secretary-general.
“I was informed that the secretary-general will also issue a statement on the matter,” the source told reporters in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
The notice is believed to be linked to complaints previously lodged by Bersatu, including allegations that the party was not involved in PN Supreme Council meetings and questions over its membership status within the coalition.
Several PN component parties are also understood to have been instructed not to use the coalition’s logo in any activities pending a final decision by the Registrar of Societies.
An official statement from RoS is expected to be issued on the matter.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had previously urged RoS to decide promptly on complaints filed by the party, including allegations that PN leadership had breached eight provisions.
