Rosie O’Donnell apologizes to Wynonna Judd over Trump assumption

Rosie O’Donnell has apologized to longtime friend Wynonna Judd after wrongly assuming she supports Donald Trump.

The former TV host, 64, said on a podcast in August that Judd, 62, is the only Trump supporter that she keeps in touch with amid her public feud with the president. However, the country legend pushed back on O’Donnell’s remarks in a recent interview with People, in which she said the comment was a “complete assumption.”

O’Donnell publicly apologized in an Instagram post Wednesday, writing: “I was wrong to assume Wy was a Trump supporter just because she performed at marlargo - but as she told me she has sung for seven presidents on both sides of the aisle. My apologies here publicly (as I first made them privately) #friendship.”

She then encouraged her followers to go see the “I Saw the Light” singer in concert, saying, “she’s touring her new album now - go see her SING like no one else on earth.”

Judd performed at Trump’s Florida Mar-a-Lago club in 2023, but the president was not in attendance at the time.

O’Donnell is one of Trump’s most vocal critics and has even credited him as part of the reason why she left the U.S. to move to Ireland.

On The Tangle podcast in August, O’Donnell said: “Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up. I give her a grace in a way.

“She’s had so much in her life... And I really love her, and I care about her, and, for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”

Judd told People: “I’ve never spoken to [O’Donnell] about politics in my life. She doesn’t know anything about my stuff. I’m an independent.”

She went on to tell the magazine, “I don’t know where it came [from]. It’s complete assumption,” she said. “I heard it and I went, ‘What the…?’ I don’t ever remember talking to her about this, so she’s just assuming.’ I just don’t want drama. So if there’s going to be drama [about it], I’m like, ‘Oh for crap’s sake, there’s so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?’”
