THE Court of Appeal on Friday granted Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor a three-month extension to retain her passport, allowing her to visit her daughter in Singapore.
A three-member bench led by Datuk Azman Abdullah, alongside Datuk Azmi Ariffin and Datuk Mohd Radzi Abdul Hamid, ruled in favour of the application made by Rosmah’s counsel, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader. The wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be permitted to keep her passport until the end of January next year.
Deputy public prosecutor P. Sarulatha, representing the prosecution, raised no objections to the application.
Speaking to reporters after the proceedings, Akberdin said the request was made so that Rosmah could visit her daughter, who gave birth to her fourth child earlier this year. He added that Rosmah is required to return her passport to the court by 31 January 2026.
The Court had earlier allowed Rosmah temporary custody of her passport from 24 July until today.
Rosmah, 73, was convicted by the High Court on 1 September 2022 on three counts of corruption linked to the RM1.25 billion Sarawak schools hybrid solar project.
She was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment on each charge, to run concurrently, resulting in a total of ten years behind bars, along with a RM970 million fine. In default of payment, she faces an additional 30 years in prison.
However, the High Court granted a stay of execution on both the jail term and the fine pending the outcome of her appeal. The case management for the appeal is scheduled to take place on 3 November.
Friday’s decision marks the second time Rosmah has been granted permission to travel abroad since her conviction, with the court citing humanitarian grounds and her continued cooperation in complying with all legal requirements. - October 31, 2025
