KLANG, Oct 25 - His Royal Highness (DYMM) the Sultan of Selangor has expressed regret that his observations, or royal counsel (titah), regarding the state’s administration have been misinterpreted by certain parties and politicians as attempts to interfere in government affairs or exercise absolute rule.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj emphasised that these observations are not intended to interfere in the state’s administrative affairs; rather, they aim to ensure that the welfare and comfort of the people remain a top priority.
“I wish to clarify to the people that when I offer observations, provide views, or express concerns regarding matters of state administration, it is not done to interfere in the government’s administrative affairs. Instead, my intention is to ensure that the welfare and comfort of the people are always given primary attention.
“I do not wish for the people to perceive my observations as a conflict or friction between myself and the government. On the contrary, I want each observation to be viewed as part of my responsibility to ensure that the state administration remains attentive to the interests of the people and the future of the state of Selangor.
“However, it is deeply regrettable that these observations; or ‘royal pronouncements’ (titah), in the language of the palace; have been misinterpreted by certain parties and a handful of politicians, as if I intend to interfere in the state government’s administration or seek to exercise absolute monarchical rule,” His Royal Highness stated at the Balairung Seri of Istana Alam Shah today.
His Royal Highness made these remarks during the Ceremony for the Proclamation of Titles, the Taking of Oaths, and the Pledging of Allegiance by the Orang-Orang Besar Istana (High-Ranking Palace Officials) and Dato’ Diraja of Selangor, as well as the Investiture Ceremony for State Orders and Decorations, held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration of his 25-year reign.
Sultan Sharafuddin emphasised that he is well-versed in the legal provisions, as well as the roles and responsibilities, under the system of Constitutional Monarchy and Parliamentary Democracy practised in both the country and the state of Selangor.
His Royal Highness further affirmed His commitment to upholding the Laws of the Constitution of Selangor 1959 and the Federal Constitution, particularly regarding His position and jurisdiction as the Sultan.
“Throughout my reign, I have governed based on the trust and responsibilities vested in me.
“I believe that every party entrusted with a role within the government bears specific responsibilities that must be respected and carried out with the utmost integrity,” His Royal Highness added.
