In a firm stance against the proliferation of deviant teachings, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar underscored the critical need for stringent enforcement measures. His comments came in the wake of a directive from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, articulated during the national-level Maal Hijrah celebration today.
The Minister stressed that both religious authorities and the police must take decisive action to curb the spread of misleading religious content. "Following the decree of His Majesty, it is imperative for us to act swiftly and decisively. The religious authorities and police must collaborate to address this issue head-on," Mohd Na’im stated.
To this end, he announced plans to direct the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) to engage in strategic discussions with state Islamic religious departments, focusing particularly on their enforcement divisions. "I will instruct Jakim to coordinate with the state departments to create a united front against deviant teachings," he said.
Moreover, Mohd Na’im revealed his intention to seek an audience with the King to discuss the formation of a special committee dedicated to combating the spread of deviant teachings. "Upholding His Majesty’s decree is paramount, and establishing a specialized committee will ensure we address this issue effectively," he added.
Another significant aspect of Sultan Ibrahim’s decree is the establishment of a religious reference center, aimed at disseminating accurate knowledge and countering the unregulated flow of information on social media. Mohd Na’im emphasized the importance of such a center in today's digital age. "In light of the unrestrained flow of information through social media, which is difficult to control, the need for a reliable religious reference center becomes even more critical," he said.
Discussions on this matter will involve Jakim, the federal-level religious agency responsible for overseeing religious issues. "As directed by His Majesty, we will explore the necessary steps to establish this reference center," Mohd Na’im affirmed.
During his Royal Address, Sultan Ibrahim called upon the government to bolster enforcement against deviant content and to set up a religious reference center. His Majesty's decree highlights the necessity of accurate knowledge dissemination in maintaining social harmony and religious integrity.
In expressing his full support for Sultan Ibrahim’s decree, Mohd Na’im urged the public, particularly social media users, to maintain high moral standards and use respectful language. "We must adhere to His Majesty’s decree, using social media responsibly to foster mutual respect and unity among our diverse communities," he asserted.
Earlier today, Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah graced the national-level Maal Hijrah 2024/1446H celebration held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). The event saw the attendance of prominent figures, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as well as Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and his wife, Azrina Puteri Mohamed Mahyuddin.
The celebration, themed ‘Al-Falah Pemacu Malaysia Madani,’ reflects the essence of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings. It serves as a guiding principle for Malaysians, steering them towards true success both in this world and the hereafter. The concept of Al-Falah, which translates to ‘success’ or ‘prosperity,’ is integral to the vision of Malaysia Madani, a developed and civilized Malaysia.
Mohd Na’im reiterated the importance of community development based on Al-Falah, urging it to be actively pursued, embraced, and realized to achieve the goals of Malaysia Madani. "The principles of Al-Falah must be woven into the fabric of our community, guiding us to prosperity and success," he concluded.
This renewed focus on religious integrity and social responsibility marks a significant step towards fostering a more harmonious and united Malaysia, aligned with the noble vision of its leaders.
