Prince Harry next high-profile trip will be to New York – and Meghan Markle will not be joining him, his representatives have confirmed.

Harry, who turns 40 on 15 September, will travel to the Big Apple for the UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week.

The events are taking place after the Duke of Sussex’s milestone birthday, with Climate Week beginning on 22 September and High-Level Week kicking off the day after.

“Advancing a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives,” a spokesperson for the duke said he will “participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst.”

He will also “be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organisation he co-founded with his wife Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.”

Harry’s visit notably takes place at the same time as Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on 24 September.

It is not known if the heir to the throne will travel to New York for the event, but he was in attendance last year.

The Duchess of Sussex’s luxury lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard is reportedly struggling to find a CEO ahead of its launch.

This is the latest blow for the Sussexes, who have struggled to retain their staff.

A source told Closer magazine: “The brutal reality is Harry and Meghan are the toughest of taskmasters, they are very demanding and difficult to work for, and that puts a lot of people’s backs up.”

While Meghan has soft-launched jams and dog biscuits from the brand on social media and unveiled its logo, an official launch date has yet to be revealed.

Emma Guinness

The Duchess of Sussex was reportedly left in tears by the public reaction to her first American Riviera Orchard product.

Earlier this year, she teased jams that would be sold by the luxury lifestyle brand, which has yet to launch officially.

Royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror: “Meghan was in tears when the brand launched, and her new jam was widely mocked for being expensive and nothing special.”

He added: “She has reached the point now where she thinks that anything and everything she does will be unfairly criticised. Like her husband, she feels that people are unfairly picking on her – she cannot understand why people don’t admire her work.”

The monarch is reportedly impressed by the way his youngest brother and his wife have stepped up to the mark during the family’s recent health troubles.

Richard Kay told the Daily Mail: “Charles has entertained the thought of offering Royal Lodge to his youngest brother Prince Edward.

“The two haven’t always seen eye to eye, but the King has been hugely impressed by the manner in which Edward and his wife Sophie have increased their workload since their elevation to Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.”

Harry and Meghan ‘upset’ and ‘embarrassed’ by tour reaction

03:00

Emma Guinness

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “upset” and “embarrassed” by the public reaction to their recent tour of Colombia, it has been claimed.

Columbian official Andres Escobar said that the trip was used by vice president Francia Marquez as a distraction from the bigger issues facing the country.

Ahead of the visit, it was claimed that the tour would “illuminate” Colombia’s role on the world stage as a beacon of culture and innovation.

“There are many, many Colombians who are hungry and have a lack of basic needs,” Mr Escobar claimed, OK! magazine reports.

“They invested this money because the Vice President wanted to meet two high-profile public figures and brush aside criticism and problems that we have here.

“We are in an economic crisis and eight billion pesos have been spent for the visit of Harry and Meghan, Colombian military planes and helicopters have been used and the money could have been better spent.”

A source told OK! magazine: “Both Meghan and Harry are keen to do more of these tours as that’s what they love doing and what they enjoyed most about royal life.

“But they’ve been left embarrassed by this latest backlash, especially as they faced similar comments when they went to Nigeria.”

Tuesday 27 August 2024 22:00

Emma Guinness

It has been speculated that the frosty relationship between Prince Harry and William could “soften” when King Charles passes away.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond claims that while the Duke of Sussex would like to make amends, William does not “waste any of his life thinking about his brother”.

She told OK! magazine: “You can only go to a coronation if you are invited and, at this stage, I suspect Harry would not be invited. However, that day is hopefully someway away and it’s possible that William’s attitude may have softened somewhat by then.”

This comes after Meghan, 43, teased products from the brand with a social media soft launch, showcasing jams and dog biscuits.

The insider claimed that the official launch of American Riviera Orchard is being held up by Meghan and Harry’s ongoing struggle to keep staff.

“The numbers don’t lie and to have almost 20 members of staff quitting on them tells its own story,” a source told Closer magazine.

“It’s unprecedented, even for a startup.

“The brutal reality is Harry and Meghan are the toughest of taskmasters, they’re very demanding and difficult to work for and that puts a lot of people’s backs up.”

Religious leaders advise King Charles to ‘open truce’ with Prince Harry

Tuesday 27 August 2024 14:00

King Charles has reportedly been encouraged to reconcile with Prince Harry by religious leaders.

Sources told the Mail on Sunday that the monarch has received “spiritual nourishment” as he comes to terms with a tumultuous few years.

The king’s relationship with his youngest son has deteriorated since Harry stepped down as a working royal in 2020. The pair have not seen each other since February.

“Faith has always been a part of Charles’s life and something he’s explored, but since becoming King it is playing a more central role,” the source said.

They added: “[Charles] has faith that Harry could return. He misses the bond they once had, and the door will always remain open to him and his family.

“He does not want years of discord and disharmony clouding his reign.”

Royal family want to ‘keep Harry out of mind'

Tuesday 27 August 2024 13:00

Emma Guinness

The royal family are currently enjoying their summer break at Balmoral, and the absence of the Sussexes has not gone unnoticed.

While Harry and Meghan were reportedly not invited to the estate, it is unlikely that they would have accepted an invitation after Harry recently said he believes the UK is too dangerous for his wife to visit.

Royal author Christopher Andersen told Fox News: “The last time Harry was at Balmoral Castle was in September 2022, when his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, died there.

“His absence from Balmoral this summer is just one more sign that the royal family – Kate included – prefer to have Harry out of sight and out of mind for the time being.”

Harry did not see any of his immediate family on his most recent trip to the UK in May. He last saw his father, King Charles, in February.

Meghan Markle ‘rules out’ staying with royal family on UK return

Tuesday 27 August 2024 12:00

Emma Guinness

The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly ruled out staying with the royal family if she returns to the UK.

Meghan, 43, has not spent any time in the country she once called home since the late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

Royal expert Tom Quinn explained that a return now would be dependent on two factors for the former Suits star.

“Meghan has said she’s only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a place of their own and the security they both feel is essential,” Quinn told The Mirror.

“Meghan will never return to the UK and stay with her husband’s relatives.”

This comes after Prince Harry recently said that he will not bring his wife to the UK because he fears “an acid or knife attack” fuelled by negative tabloid stories.

Kate wants Harry and William to ‘kiss and make up'

Tuesday 27 August 2024 10:00

Emma Guinness

The Princess of Wales, who was once close to Prince Harry, reportedly wants Prince William to reconcile with his estranged brother.

During what has been a difficult year for the royal family, an expert has speculated that peace between the warring brothers would be one less “cloud” for them to deal with.

Royal author Christopher Andersen told Fox News: “Kate was close to Harry, true. They had a special bond. They shared the same goofy sense of humour and laughed at the same jokes. Harry often said Kate was the sister he never had.

“Of course, Kate would like nothing better than to have the brothers kiss and make up. It would be one less cloud hanging over the royal family’s head.”

This comes amid reports that Harry and William’s relationship has now deteriorated to the point where William does not want his younger brother to attend his coronation.

The trip to Scotland has been described as a “positive” step in her recovery from an undisclosed form of cancer.

Royal author Phil Dampier told Fabulous magazine: “The fact that Kate is well enough to travel to Scotland and enjoy a holiday at Balmoral is a sure sign she is on the mend and a very positive step.”

The princess has been largely out of the public eye this year amid her health troubles.

However, it has been claimed that the royals are reluctant to engage with the couple because of the number of tell-all interviews they have given to the press.

A source told The Sunday Times: “The problem for the King and other members of the family is the worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it will appear in Spare volume two.”

“What [men] cannot put up with are two things which they cannot abide with,” Mr Cole told GB News America.

“Their driving ability, and they certainly cannot allow their wife to be criticised. Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have made no secret of their disdain for Princess Kate.

“Even when her cancer was diagnosed and she announced it herself. The message they sent was sort of a mealy-mouthed thing.”

When Kate’s illness was revealed to the public, the Sussexes released a message which read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they can do so privately and in peace.”

Saturday 24 August 2024 04:49

Alex Croft

The Duke of Sussex has revealed that it was his father King Charles who first referred to him as the “spare”.

This comes after Harry, 39, released a tell-all memoir about his time in The Firm with the same name in January of last year.

The now-king reportedly made the comment at the time of Harry’s birth in 1984, telling the late Princess Diana: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare - my work is done.”

The Guardian claims that Harry’s upset at the title was reflected in his memoir of the same name.

The newspaper wrote in its review: “Harry’s resentment of being the ‘spare’ is the underlying theme of his book, through chapters on his childhood, his schooling, his career as a royal and in the British Army, his relationship with his parents and brother, and his life with Meghan through courtship, wedding and marriage, to their own experience of parenthood.”

Colombia vice-president comes clean on Sussexes trip controversy

Harry and Meghan visited Colombia for a four day tour last week on the invite of vice-president Francia Marquez.

Many in Colombia were critical of the move, believing it was a move to distract from political and economic failings of the incumbent government, and potentially a move of self-promotion from Ms Marquez.

The funding of the trip came under scrutiny as questions were raised on who was paying for the Sussexes visit, including for their thorough security.

In a statement put out by her office, Ms Marquez has now set the record straight, claiming it was a joint effort.

“This visit was the result of a collective effort. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex financed their trip and that of their team with their own resources,” the statement read.

“The events held in the various places visited were co-financed with resources from international cooperation and philanthropy that generously contributed to this visit.

“The Ministry of Equality and Equity and the Vice Presidency guaranteed the technical requirements, mobility and participation of young people, women and communities.”

Following the claim that Prince William does not want Prince Harry at his coronation, a friend has claimed that the estranged brothers will see each other one last time in the flesh.

Their relationship has progressively deteriorated since Harry stepped down as a working royal in 2020, and they were not photographed together at King Charles’s coronation.

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry sensationally claimed that he was physically attacked by his older brother.

A friend of the heir to the throne told The Daily Beast: “I suspect that William will see Harry one more time in his life in the flesh – at their father’s funeral.”

Ahead of its release on Amazon Prime, former Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis has spoken out in the Times, on what she makes of Prince Andrew’s guilt.

Maitlis recalls speaking to Ruth Wilson, star of Luther and Jane Eyre, who asks her whether she thinks the royal is guilty.

“I tell her there is no way I or anyone else will ever know the full truth of what happened with or to Virginia Giuffre, the trafficked Jeffrey Epstein victim who claims she was also abused by the royal,” Maitlis writes.

“But he was clearly guilty of other things — his continued friendship with Epstein after his arrest, his flat-footed response to the victims of sex trafficking.”

The series will be released on September 19.

Harry’s ‘bloody rude’ treatment of the Princess of Wales

Friday 23 August 2024 19:15

Alex Croft

A friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales has described Prince Harry’s treatment of the future queen as “bloody rude”.

This comes after it was claimed that Prince William was “furious” about Harry and Meghan’s decision to call his wife “Kate” and not her preferred name of “Catherine” when they released a statement wishing her well after she was diagnosed with cancer.

“Of course, it’s an utterly trivial thing, but those of us who know William know that it is one of the things that pushes his buttons,” the source told The Daily Beast.

“Pushing his buttons while he was going through his wife’s cancer seemed an entirely unnecessary and deliberate irritation.”

They added: “No one’s saying it’s responsible for all the trouble, but deliberately calling someone by a name they don’t like is just bloody rude.”

A source, speaking to Closer Magazine, said: “She really wants William to try and fix (the relationship), but he's refusing and is adamant that Harry deserves no mercy, that anything they do will just be manipulated by him and Meghan.

ICYMI: William and Kate ‘may only have a few years of freedom left’

Friday 23 August 2024 15:13

Alex Croft

King Charles’s cancer diagnosis has rocked the monarchy and inspired the Princess of Wales to make the most of her “freedom” while she still has it.

She is reportedly using this time to equip her three young children with the life skills they will need to navigate their unusual position in society.

“Charles’ cancer hasn’t gone away, the Palace have said as much, and to be brutally honest, the once-popular notion that he will live to a similar age as his mother [94] or father [99] is now less widespread,” an insider told The Daily Beast.

“I think that has very much focused Kate’s mind on the fact that there may only be a few years of freedom left. What does she want to do with them? Nurture her kids and try her best to equip them for the life ahead of them.”

More from Emily Maitlis on the world famous Prince Andrew interview

Friday 23 August 2024 14:04

Alex Croft

Former Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis has today spoken out on the build up to the world-famous car crash interview with Prince Andrew, regarding the allegations of sexual offences.

Writing in the Times, she is recalling meeting Ruth Wilson, who is set to star as Maitlis in the three-part drama on Amazon Prime.

She explains to Wilson about the months leading up to the interview with Prince Andrew, recalling that the Newsnight deputy editor, Stewart Maclean, turned down the interview offer in May 2019, after the Prince demanded he wasn’t asked about Epstein.

Maitlis recalls how Maclean turned it down “precisely because he didn’t like the idea of there being red-line questions that were out of bounds. And how we then watched Andrew slip away to an ITV interview instead.”

But everything changed in the following months, as the Newsnight team built an offensive to bring Prince Andrew onto BBC screens.

“The death of Epstein in a New York jail; the cranking up again of our bidding process; the meetings brilliantly set up by our producer, Sam McAlister, with Andrew’s private secretary, Amanda Thirsk, to ‘audition’ for an interview with him; our clandestine trips to Buckingham Palace, welcomed in by jolly security guards and told to ‘follow the red carpet through the arch’,” were all essential in Newsnight’s success.
