The official opening ceremony of the Abdul Rahman Auf Mosque in Taman Rapat Koperasi was honored by the presence of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, this evening.
Arriving at 8:27 pm, His Royal Highness was greeted by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim. Also in attendance were Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini, the chairman of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk), and Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim, the director of the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk).
Upon his arrival, Sultan Nazrin Shah officiated the opening of the mosque by pressing a button to draw a curtain, symbolizing the official inauguration of the mosque. Following this, His Royal Highness led the recitation of the ‘takbir’ in observance of the Eid al-Adha celebration. He then joined 300 congregants in performing the Isyak prayers, further marking the significance of the occasion.
The Abdul Rahman Auf Mosque, also known as MAARUF, holds a significant place in the community. Originally built as a surau, it spans an area of 1,244 square meters. The construction was completed on April 1, 2007, at a cost of RM930,577, providing a space capable of accommodating 700 congregants.
The transformation from a surau to a mosque underscores the growing needs of the local Muslim community, providing a larger, more accommodating space for worship and community activities. The official opening by Sultan Nazrin Shah not only highlights the importance of the mosque but also reinforces royal patronage and support for the religious and cultural development in the region.
