Royal Mint unveils new series of collectable 50p coins

  • The Royal Mint has unveiled a new series of collectable 50p coins to commemorate 50 years of Aardman Animations, the acclaimed studio known for Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.
  • The "tails" side of the new coin, designed by Aardman, features an ensemble of iconic characters including Feathers McGraw, Shaun the Sheep, Morph, and Wallace and Gromit, with some of these coins also available in full colour.
  • Aardman co-founder Peter Lord visited The Royal Mint to strike one of the first coins.
  • A gold version of the Aardman 50p will be crafted from recycled gold. The Royal Mint has announced its ambition to extend this sustainable approach to all its collectable gold coins by the close of 2026.
  • The collectable coins will be available for purchase from 9am on Tuesday, June 9, via The Royal Mint's official website, with prices starting at £15 for a brilliant uncirculated coin.
