- Divers off the Isle of Wight have discovered the wreck of HMS Tiger, a Royal Navy warship that sank in 1908.
- The torpedo boat destroyer was cut in two after straying into the path of another warship during a training exercise. More than half of its 57 crew members died.
- The discovery was made by the ProjectXplore team following five years of historical research into the vessel's location.
- The find comes as the Government considers new powers under the Armed Forces Bill to safeguard shipwrecks with a “protected place” designation once remains have been found.
- Minister for the Armed Forces Louise Sandher-Jones said: “As well as protecting UK national security, defence has a role to play in preserving our maritime heritage and the memory of those who gave their lives serving their country.”
