LABUAN: Incumbent and three-time Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli won hands down the Chairman’s post at the Labuan Warisan divisional meeting here, with HJ Che Mat remaining deputy and SK Tan vice chairman.
Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, who officiated the AGM, said a decision on contesting the parliamentary seat would be made later although it has the right candidate.
He added what is important is the chosen candidate must know the people and the people know him. “He must not appear simply when an election is on.”Referring to the turnout, Shafie said Warisan would continue to work closely with the grassroots, hearing and helping in solving problems.
He added that Warisan was serious about the Labuan seat because there were many Sabahans working on the island.
The present MP here is Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman who contested the seat under Bersatu and won with a narrow 708-vote majority. It was his third win at the polls.
Suhaili was an Umno candidate in the earlier two elections but left and resumed active politics during the 15th General Election. He joined Bersatu in 2018 and faced disciplinary action and is now partyless.
