The Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) has ordered an inquiry after a parking contractor was allegedly found charging Rs 800 per hour for parking a motorcycle near the lift.
The matter came to light after a video went viral, wherein a motorcyclist and a parking operator can be seen arguing over hefty charges. The video drew flak from the people who questioned the MC for such arbitrary fees being charged by parking lot operators.
The person who was allegedly overcharged for parking his motorcycle stated that when he questioned the parking operator over the fixed parking fee, they started to misbehave with him and also threatened him with physical assault.
Bhupinder Attri, Commissioner of the SMC, said the matter had come to his notice and stern action would be taken against those involved in this incident. He said such incidents were frequently reported during the peak tourist season. “Rates of all commercial parking within Shimla are fixed. No one can charge more than the prescribed amount. In case of violation, a stern action is taken against the offender and such operators will be penalized,” he said.
