KUALA LUMPUR – Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has apologised to viewers after a technical fault on its RTMKlik streaming platform disrupted the live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup match between France and Senegal in the early hours of today.

The interruption occurred during the first half of the Group-stage encounter, which kicked off at 3am, leaving many football fans unable to watch the match.

In a statement, the national broadcaster said the out was caused by an unforeseen technical issue and assured viewers that its technical team, together with its technology partners, acted swiftly to restore the service.

RTM acknowledged the frustration experienced by supporters who had stayed up to follow the highly anticipated World Cup fixture.

“We fully understand the disappointment felt by football fans who were looking forward to watching the match.

“We sincerely appreciate the patience, support and feedback shown by viewers throughout the disruption,” the broadcaster said.

As Malaysia’s official broadcaster for the FIFA World Cup 2026, RTM is responsible for airing all 104 matches during the tournament, including 94 live telecasts and 10 delayed broadcasts.

The broadcaster reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a seamless viewing experience and said efforts are underway to strengthen its digital infrastructure to minimise the risk of similar incidents in the future.

“RTM once again apologises for the inconvenience caused and remains committed to ensuring the smooth transmission of all World Cup matches so that they can be enjoyed by Malaysians with improved quality and reliability,” it added.

France began their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Senegal, thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappé and another goal from Bradley Barcola. – June 17, 2026
