Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) recently responded to a public complaint regarding cleanliness issues in the Brickfields area by conducting a follow-up inspection on 3 April 2026 at premises along Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad.

During the inspection, officers discovered a build-up of rubbish on the roof of one premises, as well as several nearby food establishments that failed to meet required hygiene standards. Enforcement action was subsequently taken, including the issuance of two sanitation notices for poor grease trap maintenance and unsatisfactory kitchen cleanliness, in accordance with the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws (WPKL) 2016.

Mosquito larvae were also found at one of the premises and were immediately removed

Beyond enforcement, authorities took the opportunity to engage directly with business owners, offering health education and guidance to help improve hygiene practices and ensure better compliance moving forward. This approach reflects an effort not only to penalise offences but also to encourage long-term behavioural change among operators.

At the same time, vector control inspections were carried out at 20 premises in the surrounding area. These checks identified several mosquito breeding sites, including stagnant water in drains and unattended containers. All identified breeding grounds were promptly eliminated, and one notice was issued to a premises linked to the presence of mosquito larvae.

In total, three notices were issued, covering both sanitation and vector control concerns. The situation highlights the importance of consistent upkeep and vigilance in maintaining urban cleanliness, particularly in high-traffic areas.

Looking ahead, DBKL said in a Facebook post that it plans to continue routine monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure the city remains clean, safe, and free from health risks. Public cooperation remains essential in sustaining these standards and preserving a healthy urban environment.
