Talks between the United States and Iran are expected to continue next week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said.
Speaking at Kuwait City airport, Rubio said that, to the best of his knowledge, the technical talks would resume on Monday or Tuesday. He expected negotiations to take place in Switzerland once again.
"I believe they’re going back to Switzerland," Rubio said.
The two sides had divided the negotiations into various working groups, within which the talks were now set to continue. On the US side, experts on nuclear energy and sanctions from several ministries are expected to take part.
On Sunday, representatives from the US, Iran and the mediating countries Pakistan and Qatar met for talks at a luxury resort near Lucerne. Pakistan indicated that negotiations would continue in smaller working groups later in the week.
At the end of February, the US and Israel had launched a war against Iran, which is now to be definitively resolved following a framework agreement signed last week. The framework agreement sets out the intention to reach a final agreement within 60 days if possible.
