SANDAKAN: The implementation concept of the Program Prihatin Keluarga Sandakan (PPKS) is being expanded through the distribution of controlled goods to Dedicated District Retailers (DDR) here and in several other districts in Sabah such as Kudat, Keningau and also Labuan Federal Territory.
Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) Deputy Minister Senator Fuziah Salleh said PPKS is an initiative and proactive measure implemented by KPDN Sandakan Branch since March 2022 to ensure that consumers especially in rural areas enjoy the subsidy benefits from the Government.
She explained the programme is also to ensure that the supply of basic controlled goods in rural areas is not interrupted while also facilitating the process of sending controlled goods to areas that are experiencing a lack of supply.
She said PPKS is also a manifestation of the Madani Government’s concern to balance the needs of the people in addition to increasing the effectiveness of providing services especially to the people of Sabah in helping to ease the burden of the costs of living.

Read more In total, from January 1 to June 7, 2024, a total of 51,731 kg (51.7 metric tonnes) or 3,043 boxes of cooking oil have been distributed through PPKS and it provides convenience to consumers in the areas involved.
She said after conducting a field trip for PPKS covering the distribution areas of controlled and subsidised goods around Kinabatangan and Sandakan, on Monday.
KPDN Sandakan Branch Chief Azdy Zukkry John was also present.
The two-day visit from Sunday was also a benchmarking session and involved dealing with wholesalers and retailers under PPKS in ensuring the supply of goods such as sugar, cooking oil and other necessities is sufficient for domestic use, especially in Sandakan.
Fuziah also visited the cooking oil factories, oil packers (repackers) and sugar wholesalers under the PPKS to see the operation and management of the supplies of cooking oil and refined white sugar at the premises.
She also said that to ensure the stability of the supply of goods in Sabah, KPDN takes comprehensive measures by monitoring the supply distribution network at all levels so that there is always enough stock in the market to meet consumer demand.
“This includes actions to create a direct collaboration network with manufacturers, wholesalers and up to the retailer level,” she said.
