The Russian Defence Ministry on Saturday accused Ukraine of violating the three-day ceasefire mediated by US President Donald Trump.

Ukrainian forces had targeted Russian military positions and civilian infrastructure with drones and artillery, Russia's Interfax news agency reported on the basis of Defence Ministry information.

Russia's Kaluga, Tula, Smolensk, Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod regions had been hit, along with the Chechen Republic and the Stavropol and Krasnodar regions in southern Russia, the report said.

There was no initial confirmation of these attacks from the Ukrainian side. But the Ukrainian general staff reported 45 Russian attacks by early morning in contested regions in eastern Ukraine's Donbass.

The Russian Defence Ministry also reported 12 attacks by the Ukrainian side. The ministry said Russian forces had reacted to Ukrainian drone and artillery attacks, but had not otherwise deployed drones, rockets or artillery.

The information from both sides could not be verified. Earlier ceasefires in the war that erupted when Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February 2022 have also been violated on a large scale.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the ceasefire had held for Moscow during the annual May 9 Victory Parade. There had been no attempts by Ukraine to disrupt the parade marking the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, he said.

On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged not to attack the parade on Moscow's Red Square following US mediation.

Yuri Ushakov, foreign policy adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said there had been intensive contact with the United States given threats on the parade made by Kiev. The ceasefire mediated by Trump is to last until Monday.
