Ukraine’s air force data reveals a record monthly drone barrage from Russia as peace talks stall, with Kyiv claiming a high interception rate.
KYIV: Russia launched more drones at Ukraine in March than in any other month since its 2022 invasion. An analysis of Ukrainian air force data shows the intensification came as peace talks stalled.
The data indicates Russia fired at least 6,462 long-range drones into Ukraine last month. This represents a nearly 28% increase over February and marks the second consecutive monthly rise.
In the same period, Russia launched 138 missiles at Ukraine. This figure is a decrease of around 52% compared to the previous month.
The Ukrainian air force claimed it downed nearly 90% of the missiles and drones. This interception rate is the highest reported since February 2025.
The data includes a rare daytime attack on March 24 that killed eight people. Authorities reported the strike damaged the UNESCO-protected city of Lviv in western Ukraine.
US-led talks aimed at ending the four-year war stalled in March. Washington shifted its diplomatic focus to its own war with Iran.
Russia denies targeting civilians in the conflict. It has ramped up its drone production to an industrial scale since the war began.
Ukraine has sought to scale up its air defences in response. This includes deploying cheap interceptor drones to destroy their Russian counterparts.
