Ukraine says a Russian drone hit a civilian cargo ship carrying corn, wounding crew members in the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk.

KYIV: A Russian drone strike hit a civilian cargo ship in the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk late on Wednesday, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Odesa regional military governor Oleg Kiper said the attack targeted a Panamanian-flagged vessel as it was leaving the port. “The vessel was carrying corn,” Kiper stated.

He confirmed that several crew members were wounded in the attack and subsequently evacuated. The official did not provide the ship’s name or the exact number of casualties.

Ukraine has repeatedly accused Moscow of attacking cargo vessels transporting food products throughout the four-year war. Russia denies targeting civilians but has warned that any ship sailing towards Ukrainian ports may be treated as carrying military cargo.

The strike further disrupts exports from Ukraine, a major global agricultural producer. Its shipments have been severely impacted since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
