
KYIV: Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine have killed six people including two children and forced nationwide power outages.
Plans for a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump were shelved after Moscow rejected ceasefire calls.
Debris from downed weapons scattered across the Ukrainian capital sparked fires in half of its districts according to Kyiv’s military administration head Timur Tkachenko.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak stated Ukraine had long agreed to the US ceasefire proposal while Moscow continues killing.
He emphasized that collective actions against Putin remain insufficient and more must be done together to stop the killing of Ukrainian people.
The White House suspended the planned Trump-Putin summit following Moscow’s rejection of immediate ceasefire demands.
A senior US official confirmed there were no plans for a meeting in the near future.
Ukraine’s emergency service reported two people killed in the Kyiv attack and four including two children dead from strikes in the surrounding region.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said ten people were rescued from a high-rise building fire in Dniprovskyi district with five including a child hospitalized across the city.
Fires also broke out in Desnianskyi Darnytskyi and Pecherskyi districts the latter home to the historic Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery.
Ukrainian officials stated the attacks continued through most of the night and early Wednesday using ballistic missiles followed by drone strikes.
Russia provided no immediate comment on the overnight attacks.
Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk reported the enemy struck the country’s energy infrastructure all night without providing specific details.
The energy ministry announced emergency power outages in most Ukrainian regions including Kyiv and surrounding areas due to the Russian infrastructure attacks.
Poltava region’s governor reported damage to oil and gas facilities in Myrhorod district from the Russian assault.
Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov said 13 people were wounded in overnight attacks in the frontline southeastern region.
Russia has consistently targeted Ukrainian energy facilities since its 2022 invasion maintaining they represent legitimate military targets.
Tuesday’s attack killed four people and left hundreds of thousands without power in what Kyiv called Moscow’s latest campaign to break Ukraine’s energy system before winter. – Reuters
