Ryanair passenger sucked out window claims airline have only offered to rebook flight

A Ryanair passenger who was partially sucked out of a broken plane window has claimed that the airline has only offered to rebook his flight following the mid-air emergency.

Ljubisa Karovic, 61, walked away with neck and shoulder injuries after an aircraft window broke at 20,000ft during flight FR1879 from Thessaloniki in Greece to Memmingen near Munich, Germany, on 10 July.

His wife Svetlana Grković said she had to pull her husband back into the plane as he repeatedly lost consciousness.

Now wearing a neck brace for at least six weeks, the Serbian businessman has alleged that no Ryanair officials have been in touch after the incident.

Ljubisa told the Daily Mail: “All we’ve had is emails to my son, who booked our flights, asking if we want to rebook and asking how I was. But nobody from the company has contacted me directly, not even a phone call to show any concern.”

Svetlana also claimed that crew members “didn’t do anything” and “looked scared” as passengers battled to hold onto Ljubisa’s legs.

The Boeing 737 returned to Thessaloniki airport and was met by medical staff and an ambulance, which transported Ljubisa off to hospital.

Fellow passengers have described hearing a loud bang “like a tyre bursting” before the window ruptured.

The airline declined to comment during the ongoing investigation into the incident.

In a previous comment to the media, Ryanair’s group chief financial officer Neil Sorahan said: “Our customer care team have actively been in touch with the family since the incident.

“Our crew did a phenomenal job and got the aircraft back to Thessaloniki. Everyone, bar none, walked off the aircraft. It was a great job done by the cabin crew and the pilots.”
