Decorations in malls are put up for a reason, and none of the aesthetically pleasing decorations are meant to be sat on.

In a video shared on the Facebook page 杂锦站, a Singaporean man was said to have allegedly damaged the display shelf at a mall in Johor Bahru, Mid Valley Southkey by sitting on it. The video started with one of the staff in the area preventing the man from escaping and asking him to pay for the damage, which he refused to do and claimed the display shelf already had defects which injured him.

“If you’re guilty, then please come with us and look at the damage,” one of the staff said.

The man initially did not want to follow them but eventually gave in after being persuaded.

However, he refused to compensate for the damage and said only the paper wrappings were damaged.

“It’s just the paper wrappings!” the man defended himself while taking pictures of the damaged shelf.

“I didn’t see any signs that told me NOT to sit”

As the argument continued, the Singaporean man also told the staff that the shelf looked like seats to him, and said he did not see any signs that prohibited him from sitting there.

One of the staff was baffled at his response and said,

“Hello! Use your brain! You’re talking nonsense!”

The man smiled and said,

“No. I’m not talking nonsense. I’m using my brain. You should’ve put a sign here to tell people not to sit, or else people wouldn’t have known. If there’s a place for you to sit, people will sit.”
