Remember the viral video from Singapore earlier this year where a Gojek driver ignored instructions from a condominium security officer and drove right into a swimming pool? Well, the court in the country has finally heard the case, with the driver receiving punishment for the offence.
Specifically, the Singaporean court yesterday (22 September) sentenced the driver, 67-year-old Chean Tuck Heng to two weeks jail for the incident. As reported by CNA, the e-hailing driver pleaded guilty to one count of a rash act endangering human life with machinery.
The court heard that on 28 February 2023, the accused had driven up to 60 metres down the wrong path at The Hillside condominium towards the swimming pool, ignoring instructions from a security officer and his own passenger, saying that he knew the way and that the pool was merely “rainwater”.
The driver ended up driving his Honda Vezel into the pool, finally stopping as the front tyres entered the pool. Thankfully, no one was harmed and the passenger had exited from the passenger door unharmed.
As a result of the incident, 3 flower pots were broken and the steps near the wading pool and several tiles were damaged, causing the condominium management to bear SGD615 in damages or approximately RM2,112.
The driver could’ve been jailed for up to a year and fined up to SGD5,000 (RM17,174) or both for the offence.
