A Singaporean national is facing up to 1-year imprisonment and up to THB20,000 (RM2,629) fine in Thailand after he allegedly assaulted a local police officer in Phuket.
According to a post by ศูนย์ข้อมูลภูเก็ต Phuket Info Center on Facebook, the assault took place of all places, inside a police station in Phuket, after the man was brought there by the police officer for riding a motorcycle without a helmet or a valid license.
Stopped by the police for not wearing a helmet and not having a valid license

ศูนย์ข้อมูลภูเก็ต Phuket Info Center added that the suspect has been identified as Lim Jia Jie, a 37-year-old Singaporean who was stopped by Thai police corporal Siriphet Kasemul at a traffic checkpoint in Phuket’s Cherng Talay subdistrict.
Lim was riding on a black and red Honda ADV motorcycle without a helmet when he was stopped by Siriphet. Afterwards, when the suspect couldn’t produce a valid license, the police corporal issued a ticket for the 2 offences.
Siriphet then brought Lim to the nearby Cherng Talay police station to settle the fine. It is unknown whether Lim is just a tourist or resides in Phuket.
Became aggressive while at the police station
At the police station, Lim allegedly threw Thai Baht banknotes directly in the face of Siriphet before punching him in the back of the head, causing the police officer to suffer minor injuries.
The Facebook post shared a couple of photos of Siriphet which showcased the minor injuries he suffered at the back of his head.
Seeing that the Singaporean suspect turned aggressive, other officers at the police station restrained him and handed him over to an investigation team to face further action.
Faces up to 1-year imprisonment
Lim is now facing potential charges for insulting and assaulting a police officer which may carry a punishment of 1-year in jail and up to RM2,629 fine.
As for the traffic violations, Lim faces a fine of up to THB2,000 or RM263 for not wearing a helmet and up to THB1,000 or RM131 for not having a valid driver’s license.
