Previously, we shared how a Singaporean man was arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for crashing his car into a Mookata restaurant in Johor Bahru on 5 March. He also crashed into a parked vehicle while attempting to reverse out of the eatery.
Additionally, the man refused to cooperate with the police in taking a second breathalyser test, prompting the authorities to bring him to the Sultan Aminah Hospital (HSA) to take toxicology samples to detect the level of alcohol in his body.
A 46-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced to two days in jail and a RM12,000 fine for drunk driving
Well, the man, 46-year-old Daniel Sim Kok Siong, was charged at the Johor Bahru Magistrate Court yesterday (14 March) under Section 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
The accused, an e-hailing driver in Singapore, pleaded guilty to drunk driving when the charge was read in Mandarin by the court interpreter in front of the Magistrate Judge Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid.
As reported by Sinar Harian, the Magistrate Court sentenced the accused to two days’ imprisonment and a fine of RM12,000. If he fails to pay the fine, he will be imprisoned for another seven months.
Moreover, the accused was also barred from holding a Malaysian driving license for up to two years starting from the date of conviction.
According to the charge sheet, Daniel was accused of driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of 165mg in 100ml of blood, exceeding the allowable threshold of 50mg in 100ml of blood.
He could’ve faced up to 2 years in jail and a fine of up to RM30,000 for the offence.
