MIRI – Sarawak DAP has vowed to send a strong team to help Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the coming elections in six states on August 12.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said the polls will be of keen interest to the state DAP chapter and to him in his capacity as DAP’s national Youth chief.
“What happens there during the six state elections will be very important for the way forward.
“The impact will be felt at national level in terms of the direction the country will be heading. “This impact will also be felt by Sarawak since we are part of the country,” he said.
“We in Sarawak cannot assume there will be no effect on us, especially if Perikatan National grows in influence,” Borneo Post quoted him as saying today in Kuching.
In the meantime, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said the ruling coalition in Sarawak that he heads, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, will meet soon to decide if GPS will play an active role in campaigning in the six states.
“GPS will meet soon to discuss this. At the moment, there is no decision yet,” he told reporters in Kuching.
GPS is part of the unity government in Putrajaya led by PH. However, it is not a component of PH.
GPS entered into a working relationship with PH to help form the unity government in Putrajaya, following the king’s advice after no single coalition received an outright mandate to form the federal government after the last general election late last year.
The sis states seeing election next month are Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu.
Nominations will be held on July 29, early voting is set for August 8, and polling proper on August 12. – The Vibes, July 5, 2023
