S’wak student allegedly assaulted by peers after declining challenge to fight

MIRI – A student of a secondary school in Kuching district has lodged a police report alleging that he was viciously assaulted by fellow students in his boarding quarters when he refused a challenge for a fight.

The incident allegedly happened at a school in Matang, a populated area located about 15km on the outskirts of Sarawak’s capital Kuching.

Kuching district police chief Ahsmon Bajah today told reporters that the student had lodged a report after the incident that allegedly took place last Friday.

“We (police) have opened an investigation paper following the report lodged by the secondary school student.

“The student last Friday lodged the report at the Simpang Tiga police station.

“The student said he was attacked when he refused a challenge from certain fellow students for a fight.

“We are awaiting instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers on the next step of action to take,” said Bajah.

Police, he said, have classified the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code (for assault).

The victim sustained injuries to his head, face and body as a result of the attack. – The Vibes, August 21, 2023
