Kota Kinabalu: Sandakan’s Leong Sin Recreational Club managed to land Sabah in fifth place at the National Lion Dance competition participated by ten of the best troupes in the country, last Saturday.
Held at Klang Parade in Selangor, it was organised by Selangor Guang Dong Association jointly with the Malaysian Lion Dance Federation.
Overall champions was Selangor Sungai Way Khuan Loke Dragon and Lion Dance Association followed by Penang’s Mei Hu Culture and Sports Association and Negeri Sembilan’s Gui Qing Art Dragon and Lion Dance Association.
The team from Sabah was led by Coach Huang Yuk Leong with Adzrul Jiril holding the lion’s head and his partner Hambali Latip as the “tail”. Both are 16 years of age.
Other members of the team included Ng Man Lun playing the drum, Huang Yee Foo and Ransome Engelbert on the cymbals and Leong Vun Kit on the gong.
The team took home a brand new lion’s head, a trophy and an RM1,000 cash prize.
