Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on Monday announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, effective immediately, to make way for the 17th State Election.
He said the decision followed an audience with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman earlier in the day, during which he advised for the dissolution of the 16th Assembly.
With the Governor’s consent, Hajiji said the move was in line with the constitutional process and reflected the government’s commitment to uphold democracy by returning the mandate to the people.
He noted that the government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) had worked to strengthen the state’s economy through the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan since taking office in September 2020.
The plan, anchored on agriculture, industry and tourism, human capital and welfare, and infrastructure and sustainability, has guided major initiatives to tackle long-standing issues, including water and electricity supply.
Hajiji said concrete actions were taken to address these legacy challenges, with several projects completed and others progressing steadily to improve the well-being of the people.
He added that GRS will cooperate with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the coming election and seek a renewed mandate to continue the progress towards building a stronger, more united and prosperous Sabah.
