Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s oil and gas industry players, including local youths, will enjoy transfer of technology (ToT) and proper training needed in the industry following a joint venture agreement between a Sabah-based company Dunia Jadi Sdn Bhd and an established Australian company, MDR Certification Engineers Pty. Ltd, here, recently.
Dunia Jadi Sdn Bhd Chairman Datuk Alijus Sipil said signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Australian company is a basic joint venture agreement that seals engagement and utilisation of expertise and capabilities from the latter would help his company to carry out projects related to oil and gas (O&G) industry in Sabah.
He said his company which is new in O&G would engage the Australian company in terms of Transfer of Technology (ToT) comprising various disciplines of technical and engineering solutions in the O&G.
“The reputable Australian company which has years of experience in the O&G, mining, and welding industries, will be providing their expertise and technology for Dunia Jadi’s downstream O&G projects in Sabah.

“This is because the joint venture is not exclusive to Dunia Jadi as together with the Australian company, we are willing to assist other corporate partners,” Alijus said.
The company was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khairul Fitri and the Australian company, by CEO Gary Holder here, recently.
At the same time, Alijus said they are bringing along a non-governmental organisation, Sabah Oil and Gas Services Council (SOGSC), linked to the government as a facilitator to SMJ Sdn Bhd to benefit from the Australian company that may bringing latest technical technologies that are not available in Sabah.
He said the Australian company has a proven track record in providing practical engineering training and this enabled them to develop a skilled and knowledgeable workforce and equipped with latest industry knowledge and best practices.
“We are also calling on the Department of Human Resource Development (JPSM) to be present in the event with the hope that the local youths that are taking courses related to O&G could be properly trained by the experts of the Australian company.
“Also, we hope there would be syllabus that can help bring down and transfer the technology in O&G to the trainees so that we can produce more skilled Sabahans in the O&G industry in Sabah.
“We also support the government policy to groom the Sabahan players in the industry,” he said.
Alijus said the joint venture agreement also aimed to train Sabahans so that they could compete in the tendering procedures of Petronas, Shell or any other related businesses.
“In the O&G industry, Sabahan players are often downgraded. How long are we going to depend on O&G contractors from Sarawak or the peninsular? I think it is high time for Sabah contractors to be provided with the chance to expand and refine skill sets in the O&G industry.
“Our effort is also in line with the State Government’s recent call for more Sabah contractors to be directly involved in the state’s O&G industry, and we are fully supportive of their policy. Hopefully, this joint venture will bring about much benefits to all quarters involved,” he said.
He said the purpose of the joint venture and MOA is to provide technical and engineering solutions and capabilities for proposed projects by the State Government and related government-linked companies (GLCs) and other potential clients such as Group of Petronas, Shell, and aviation industry.
He said it would also support the government and the people of Sabah by value adding to the O&G and other natural resources projects and providing Sabah with long term investment from others countries in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Gary said the company has extensive experience in Australia that it would fall back on in the joint venture, and bring in the expertise and latest technology required to develop the O&G industry in Sabah.
He said some of the company’s recent works include underwater welding and submarine inspections via drones.
“I think helping the people of Sabah learn about the O&G industry is going to be fantastic for the country as well as Sabahans who can obtain the capabilities and knowledge needed to operate in the industry, rather than having to rely on outsiders to do the work.
“We will be helping engineers to develop the O&G in Sabah, we bring in expertise from O&G, welding including underwater welding, and mining, among others, that are required to develop the industry in Sabah.
“Hence, I think the future for the people of Sabah is really exciting, and it is going to be a fantastic next couple of years to start learning the process on how to develop and ensure Sabahans are more than capable to excel in the O&G industry,” Gary said.
