KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Bersatu has blamed weak central leadership for its dismal performance in the recent state election, saying the party’s campaign machinery was left struggling without proper support.

Yunus Nurdin said many candidates had to borrow money and even pawn belongings after the central leadership failed to provide sufficient campaign funds.

He said the lack of resources and logistical backing crippled the party’s operations throughout the campaign period.

Yunus, however, thanked Bersatu supporters and machinery in Sabah for their hard work despite the difficulties and said internal suspensions and expulsions during the campaign further demoralised the grassroots.

He said 20 of 24 divisions in Sabah now want Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as Bersatu President and PN Chairman, warning that leaders are prepared to resign en bloc if anyone is punished for supporting the call.
