Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Sukma football squad let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Terengganu in their opening Group C match held at Stadium UKM, Bangi on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite being outplayed by their opponents at the start, they took a surprise lead against the run of play late in the first half when Nazemiran Nasrun headed in a long free kick taken from Yuseril Yusekil.
They then extended their lead with Nazemiran’s second when he struck early at the restart from a Dannelson Gulani pass.
However, Terengganu managed to reduce the deficit through their captain Muhd Safman Nazlan before Muhd Muslihuddin AtiqMat Zaid found the equaliser from the spot late in the game.
With one point collected, Sabah may need to win their next and final group match against Kelantan on Saturday to ensure their spot in the quarter-final stage.
