Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC can’t afford to drop points in their away match against Penang FC at City Stadium tomorrow (Sunday).
Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee said the three points are very important for the team to stay on track for a top three finish at the end of the season.
“We need to bounce back from the disappointing loss to Selangor FC last week by achieving a positive result against Penang FC this Sunday.
“To remain on track for a top three spot, the players must be at their best as there are only a few matches left before the end of this 2023 Super League season,” he said on Thursday. He also admitted that it may not be an easy task even though their opponents are in 10th position in the league.

“To achieve our target, we need to stay focused throughout the match to ensure we can grab the maximum points.”
Ong also played down the possibility of several key players not making the squad following injuries sustained during the match against Selangor FC.
“We don’t need to worry because there are still other players who are able to shoulder the task to fill the slots of those who have suffered injuries and also suspensions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah FC are currently fifth in the table with 33 points after 18 matches with 10 wins, three draws and five losses.
They are only one point behind third and fourth placed Kedah FC and Sri Pahang FC but have played one match more.
Their next match is against league leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim FC who are unbeaten this season on August 9 here at Likas Stadium.
