Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) pledged its full backing to the state government’s industrial drive, offering strong support for efforts to boost investment in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), streamline port operations, and unlock new opportunities for local enterprises.
The commitment was made as SCCC President Datuk Frankie Liew (inset) led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy call to Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Ewon Benedick at his office on Thursday.
SCCC signalled its readiness to partner with the Ministry in advancing key economic priorities from accelerating industrial development and helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tap into incentives, to championing improvements at the Sepangar Container Port.
Ewon briefed the delegation on the state’s push to attract investment to KKIP, highlighting flexible land lease terms and financing facilitation designed to help local businesses set up manufacturing and industrial facilities.
In response, SCCC affirmed its support for the initiatives, offering to help raise awareness among members and the broader business community.
The Chamber also voiced strong backing for moves to improve logistics and transportation infrastructure, particularly enhancing efficiency at the Sepangar Container Port.
Frankie said SCCC acknowledged that a more efficient port is vital to lowering trade costs and strengthening Sabah’s competitiveness and pledged to work alongside the government to drive those improvements.
Frankie also briefed the Minister on SCCC’s upcoming flagship event — SOHEX 2026, taking place 20–22 November at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) presenting it as a platform to showcase Sabah’s investment potential, attract quality investors, and promote growth in tourism, hospitality and related sectors.
“SCCC highly values its close partnership with the Sabah State Government. We stand ready to support these efforts, to help promote industrial development, back the growth of local SMEs, attract quality investments and create more business opportunities that contribute to Sabah’s long-term prosperity,” Frankie said.
He reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the government and all stakeholders to advance entrepreneurship, sharpen local industry competitiveness, and support sustainable economic development across the state.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close ties, with SCCC set to play an active role in advancing shared goals — driving industrial growth, elevating Sabah’s investment climate, and creating lasting benefits for the people of Sabah.
