Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) president Datuk Frankie Liew wants deeper economic, trade and cultural cooperation between Sabah and Hong KongThe measure is designed to turn shared goodwill into structured, long-term collaboration.
The call was issued after Frankie led a delegation alongside vice-president Datuk Peter Chia to the inauguration of the 6th Executive and Supervisory Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations August?26.
“We hope to build on existing friendship and actively explore wider business opportunities — creating a stronger, more effective platform for economic, trade and cultural exchange between both sides,” Frankie stated.
Held at the Hopewell Hotel, the grand gathering drew over 1,400 overseas Chinese community leaders, entrepreneurs and representatives globally.
It carried extra significance as it coincided with the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
“The large turnout from many nations and sectors clearly reflects strong unity, fellowship and cooperative spirit among overseas Chinese communities worldwide,” he said.
Frankie expressed sincere gratitude for the invitation and congratulated the new leadership line-up: “Rooted in Hong Kong with worldwide reach, this federation serves a vital role in strengthening community bonds and advancing business cooperation.”The occasion was made memorable when Frankie took home HK$5,000 in the lucky draw which earned warm applause from attendees.
The event also opened valuable doors.
Frankie and Peter held productive exchanges with business and institutional figures from Hong Kong, mainland China and beyond – laying solid groundwork for future partnerships.
